You could be a Guinness World Record Breaker and raise money for Save the Children!

Paper Dolls Jkt FCWhen my publisher sent me a story, written by the amazing Julia Donaldson (of Gruffalo fame), I was so excited to be given the chance to illustrate it. The story is called The Paper Dolls, and is all about a little girl who makes a string of paper dolls who go on an exciting adventure.

As a child, I loved making paper dolls just like the girl in the book. I really enjoyed deciding what the dolls would look like and what they would be wearing. My favourite part was the magical moment, after I had folded up a piece of paper, cut out one doll and then unfolded the paper again, to reveal a string of dolls all holding hands.

To celebrate the release of the book, we wanted to do something a little bit different so we are attempting to break a Guinness World Record for the longest ever chain of paper dolls! The current record is 2.68km long, so we are aiming for 3km. That is 60 lengths of an Olympic swimming pool, or 270 London buses, or about 11,500 of the special paper doll templates I have designed. That is a lot of paper dolls so we really need your help!

Not only will we all get to be record breakers, but we will also be helping to raise lots of money for a great cause too, because for every doll which makes up the record-breaking chain the publisher, Macmillan Children’s Books, will donate 10p to Save the Children. Everyone that submits a doll and provides legible contact information will get a certificate and be entered into a prize draw to win the chance to come to the event when the chain is unveiled and will get to meet Julia and me too!

I hope that you can help us; this is a really fun summer holiday activity and I can’t wait to see how creative Tesco customers can be!
